So, as some of you might know, I write one shots on Tumblr (as a thanks for all of my followers!), and I'm going to post them here for posterity. I'll add more as I get more requests.

As the night raged on over Battle Arena, Avatar Korra was heavily engaged with her training - the tournament drew nearer by the minute. She had already roared onward for countless hours, striving to perfect her waterbending form for the upcoming pro-bending battles ahead, and yet, she found her form to be off, terribly off. She couldn’t help but feel as though she was being watched.
And observed she was by none other than Mako, breathlessly peering from the hallway. He had been intently gazing at her since the moment she had come into the gym. He was transfixed by her form, the very stance she stood in, the way she brushed back her hair when it would obscure her vision. He would never admit that he truly found her attractive… at least not now.
Aggravated, Korra lowered her posture and ceased bending the column of water she had been attentively training. She snapped her eyes to Mako, nearly startled by the intense stare she was met with.
“You’re totally messing me up,” she barked, huffing as her arms crossed. “How long have you been standing there?”
Stepping into the gym, Mako shuffled toward her, his demeanor unchanged. “Long enough,” he retaliated, shrugging. “I’m just… ensuring that you’ve got the right stuff for this team. The tournament’s no joke, kid.”
She raised but a brow. “Kid?” she inquired, stepping forward in his direction. Her eyes narrowed in a glare. “Pardon, but I’m not a kid. I’m the Avatar. You’re lucky to have the hundreds of lifetimes of experience in me.”
Mako cracked a smirk across his face. “You’re…improving,” he quipped, adding a chuckle. “Keep it up, and you just might be half as good as me one day.”
The Avatar paralleled his smug smile, her body now just inches from that of his own. “And how would I be able to mimic such great esteem as yours, my liege?” Korra jested, curtsying before him.
“Well now, let’s see what we’ve got here,” Mako remarked, moving to her body. His hands took to adjusting her form, her body tensing as his warm hands brushed against her skin. She fought back the blush that took to her cheeks.
“Relax, will ya?” he advised, his voice soft. “You’re more tense than a komodo rhino about to charge. You have to detach yourself, ready to strike or defend at all times.” Mako’s hands swept to her shoulders, his heated grip didn’t fail to loosen her tense posture. He leaned into her ear, whispering, “You never know what’s going to happen next.”
The two lingered there before their bodies parted, and the firebender lightly sauntered back into the direction he had came. “It’s getting late,” he declared, marching off in an even stride.
He suddenly paused as he swerved around to face her once more, his red eyes meeting with her blue. His pressing facade dropped as he offered her a genuine smile. He added, “You don’t come around here as often as you used to.”
“Yeah,” she admitted, feeling her face heating in a blush. “Tenzin’s been relentless with all the airbending training lately. Avatar duties and whatnot. But,” she paused, interrupting her statement with a snicker, “I can see what I can do.”
The benders locked eyes, grinning at one another, a silent treasuring of each other’s presence before one another. He all but nodded, his smile still attached. “I’d like that,” he replied before taking his leave once again.
Mako found himself alone once again in the corridors, a rosiness pinned to his face. He would never admit that he saw the world in her eyes, how weak at the knees she made him feel… at least not now.
